Khasab: Musandam Governor's Office organized today a workshop for the final review of the governorate's strategic risk document. This comes within the framework of efforts aimed at enhancing institutional readiness and consolidating the risk management methodology, in preparation for approving the document in its final form to support the efficiency of decision-making and elevate the capacity to handle future challenges and risks.
Khadija Ali Al Harfy, Head of the Risk Management Department at the Musandam Governor's Office, stated that the workshop represents a fundamental stage preceding the approval of the final document. She noted that it contributes to enhancing the governorate's readiness and raising its capacity to confront potential risks and challenges according to a scientific and organized methodology.
She pointed out that the document is considered a strategic tool for managing changing and complex risks, especially in light of the vital geographical location enjoyed by the Musandam Governorate and the associated environmental, security, and economic variables.
She added that the document constitutes a supportive pillar for decision-makers and contributes to enhancing security and stability while ensuring the continuity of vital services. Furthermore, it raises the level of readiness to deal with emergencies and crises, improves the efficiency of investing available resources, and enhances integration and coordination among various relevant entities.
The workshop reviewed the strategic importance of the Musandam Governorate, as it is one of the governorates with a unique geographical location overlooking the Strait of Hormuz, which is considered one of the most prominent global maritime corridors. This review highlighted the significance of this location in international trade movement, maritime security, and geopolitical balances.
The participants discussed a number of themes related to understanding and analyzing the risks mentioned in the document, determining their priorities, and evaluating their potential impacts on society and the development process. This was in addition to reviewing risk handling strategies and mitigation measures to ensure the continuity of businesses and vital services. The discussions also covered indicators for measuring the effectiveness of risk control procedures, mechanisms for enhancing governance and institutional coordination, and the role of society and government entities in mitigating the effects of various crises and challenges.
The workshop also addressed the most prominent strategic risks that could affect the stability and development of the governorate. These include geopolitical variables and security challenges associated with the border location, social challenges related to population growth and urban planning requirements, and environmental pressures resulting from maritime, commercial, and tourism activities. Additionally, it covered challenges related to the transport and logistics sectors, the limited nature of certain natural resources, and economic variables at the regional and international levels.
The participants emphasized the importance of continuous review and updating of the strategic risk document to keep pace with various developments and variables. This continuous updating enhances the level of readiness and the ability to effectively respond to risks, supports sustainable development efforts, and maintains security and stability in the Musandam Governorate.
