Heavy rain alert issued across Oman as thunderstorms expected through Saturday

Muscat: Authorities have issued Alert No. (7) warning of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms expected from Friday night through Saturday, as unstable weather conditions continue to affect large parts of the Sultanate.

According to the Oman Meteorology, the alert is in effect from 10:00 PM Friday until 10:00 PM Saturday.

The forecast indicates thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rainfall, hail, and active winds, impacting several governorates including North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, interior regions, and parts of North Al Sharqiyah and South Al Sharqiyah.

Rainfall is expected to gradually extend to Al Wusta and Dhofar.

While conditions are forecast to ease by Saturday evening, particularly over northern areas, thunderstorms may persist over Al Wusta and Dhofar—especially along southern coastal regions near the Arabian Sea—until Sunday morning.

Authorities continue to urge residents to remain cautious, avoid low-lying areas and wadis, and follow official safety advisories.
