Muscat: Omani authorities have reported two separate drowning incidents that claimed the lives of three citizens on Friday, prompting renewed warnings about the dangers of water pools and wadis during the rainy season.
According to the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority, its operations center received a report of a citizen who drowned in a wadi stream in the wilayat of Wadi Bani Khalid. Rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene and recovered the individual, who was found deceased.
In a separate incident earlier the same day, rescue teams in Al Dhahirah Governorate responded to a report involving two women who drowned in a water pool in the wilayat of Ibri. Both victims were retrieved without signs of life. Preliminary information indicates that the tragedy occurred when one of the women attempted to rescue the other.
Authorities have strongly urged the public to avoid swimming in wadis and stagnant water pools, particularly during periods of rainfall, citing the significant risks posed by sudden currents and rapidly rising water levels.
The agency emphasized the importance of adhering to safety guidelines to prevent such tragic incidents and protect lives.
