Muscat: In response to the growing use of social media among children, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has directed the relevant authorities to undertake a comprehensive assessment of the issue and develop appropriate regulatory measures.
The directive comes amid the rapid expansion of social media and its increasing popularity among children and young users.
His Majesty instructed authorities to examine the matter from all aspects, conduct a thorough analysis, and prepare the necessary controls and mechanisms to regulate children's use of these platforms.
The proposed framework is aimed at supporting families in guiding their children and ensuring the safe and beneficial use of social media.
It will also help parents manage children's online activities in a manner that balances the opportunities offered by digital platforms with the need to protect young users from potential risks.
His Majesty emphasised the importance of drawing on leading international experiences and best practices in this field while developing the proposed measures.
The move reflects Oman’s continued commitment to strengthening child protection in the digital age and promoting responsible use of technology among younger generations.
