MUSCAT: The Embassy of India in Oman has said it is closely monitoring an incident involving the Indian-flagged mechanised sailing vessel Virat 1, which was reportedly carrying 14 Indian crew members off the coast of Oman.
In a statement posted on social media, the Embassy said it had learnt of the incident and that search and rescue operations are being coordinated with Omani authorities as well as vessels in the vicinity of the reported location.
“The Mission has learnt of an incident involving an Indian Flagged Mechanised Sailing Vessel Virat 1, off the coast of Oman, reportedly embarked with 14 Indian crew. Search and Rescue is being coordinated with the Omani authorities and vessels in vicinity of the incident,” the Embassy said.
No further details regarding the vessel’s condition, the exact location of the incident, or the status of the crew were immediately available.
The Embassy said it remains in contact with the relevant authorities and is monitoring developments closely. Further updates are expected as rescue efforts continue.
