A’Rustaq: A specialised medical team from Khoula Hospital recently conducted two urgent and complex spinal column surgeries at A’Rustaq Hospital.
The surgeries were conducted as part of ongoing efforts to provide specialized healthcare to patients in their respective locations in different governorates of Oman, sparing them the need for transfer to referral hospitals in the Sultanate of Oman.
The first case was that of an Omani man who inadvertently fell down from a high place and suffered severe fracture of the second lumbar vertebra that required immediate surgical intervention.
Khoula Hospital team performed a spinal fusion to treat the injury, using advanced surgical techniques. The swift intervention contributed to stabilizing the condition and resulted in significant improvement in the patient’s mobility.
The second case involved an expatriate patient who had suffered severe injury that resulted in a severe fracture of the cervical vertebrae, posing direct threat to the patient’s nerves and spinal cord. The medical team was able to stabilize the vertebrae and relieve pressure on the nerves.
The medical team included a select group of spine surgeons from Khoula Hospital, assisted by the medical staff of A’Rustaq Hospital.
Dr. Abdurrahman bin Ali Al Subhi, Consultant Orthopaedic and Spine Surgeon at Khoula Hospital, said that dealing with such critical injuries requires speed in diagnosis and prompt surgical intervention to avoid potential neurological complications.
He added that the success of the two surgeries reflects readiness and efficiency of the national medical staff and highlighted the significance of integration among health institutions in providing specialized care to patients in the different governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
Dr. Abdurrahman pointed out that such rapid response and direct coordination boosts chances for quick recovery and minimizes potential complications.
