Oman wins 4 medals at ITEX 2026 Exhibition in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur: Represented by the Research and Innovation Authority (RIA), the Sultanate of Oman won 4 medals at International Invention, Innovation, Technology Competition and Exhibition (ITEX 2026) in Malaysia. The medals include three gold and one silver. The Omani projects merited recognition among more than 1,000 inventions from 17 countries that participate in the ITEX 2026 taking place in Kuala Lumpur from 18 to 20 May 2026. They reflect the progress made in the research and development sector in Oman and affirm Omani talents potential to provide innovative solutions that keep pace with the 4th Industrial Revolution.

Oman’s first gold medal was won by innovator Nahya Nasser Al Hamdani who invented “smart glasses”, with a mobile application, to help blind and visually impaired people interact safely with their surroundings.

The second gold medal was won by innovator Luqman Sulaiman Al Dhafri, who also bagged the award set for best invention at the exhibition, for his "Drone-Air Lens" project, which specialises in the automated inspection of aircraft using drones and artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies.

Innovator Zaher Salim Al Alawi won Oman’s third gold medal for his project titled "An Advanced Biotherapeutic Platform", designed to accelerate the healing of chronic and diabetic wounds using smart delivery technologies.

Meanwhile, innovator Balqees Salim Al Hikmani won Oman’s silver medal for her innovative medical project—a closed-loop smart system for regulating potassium levels in heart patients.

ITEX 2026 figures among the most prominent annual international platforms for showcasing innovations and inventions and attracting investors and entrepreneurs from around the world.
