Oman, IMO discuss current challenges to maritime navigation

Muscat: Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister received in Muscat on Monday Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

The two sides held consultations on current challenges facing maritime navigation in the region and through the Strait of Hormuz. They also discussed efforts underway to address these challenges through amicable and peaceful means, in coordination with relevant parties.

In this context, Sayyid Badr emphasised the necessity of adhering to international law and the law of the sea, alongside respect by all parties for the sovereignty of states over their territorial waters.

For his part, the IMO Secretary-General expressed his appreciation for the existing cooperation with the Sultanate of Oman. He also voiced his satisfaction with the consultations held and expressed hope for continued efforts aimed at the safe implementation of the humanitarian initiative launched by the Organization regarding the passage of tankers currently stranded in the Gulf, in cooperation with relevant parties.
