Ministry of Labour announces ticket refund service for work abandonment cases

Muscat: The Ministry of Labour has introduced a service enabling individual and corporate employers to recover the cost of a worker’s travel ticket under specific conditions related to work abandonment reports. This service applies when a worker leaves their job and a formal report is filed and approved, allowing for a refund of the ticket deposit if certain requirements are met.

To qualify for a refund of the ticket deposit, the ministry has outlined four specific eligible cases:
Completion of the Legal Period: The work abandonment report must have been approved for a minimum of four years, provided the ticket amount has remained unused or has not been withdrawn during this period.
Cancellation of the Report: Employers can request a refund if they formally cancel the work abandonment report and the cancellation is officially updated in the ministry's system.
Approved Worker Complaints: In instances where a worker submits a complaint that is subsequently accepted and approved, the employer may still be eligible for a refund, provided the ticket funds remain untouched.
Worker Departure from Oman: If the worker leaves the country and their work permit status is officially marked as “cancelled,” the employer is entitled to recover the deposit if it was not utilised for the departure.

The Ministry of Labour emphasised that, in all instances, the ticket amount must remain unused or reserved within the ministry’s system to qualify for the refund.
