Muscat Municipality announces campaign to control insects, mosquitoes

Muscat: Muscat Municipality has announced an extensive field campaign to control insects and mosquitoes across all wilayats of the governorate, as part of ongoing public health efforts in Oman.

The campaign is being carried out daily during evening hours from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., in addition to regular morning operations. Authorities said the initiative aims to curb mosquito spread and reduce insect density, particularly in areas that have recently recorded higher activity.

The campaign covers multiple districts across Muscat Governorate, with targeted focus on identified hotspots. These include neighborhoods in Muttrah, Ruwi, Sidab, Al Bustan, and Old Muscat, as well as areas in Bausher, Seeb, Al Amerat, and Quriyat.

Specific localities include Al Khoudh, Al Mawaleh (north and south), Al Ghubrah, Al Azaiba, Madinat Al Nahda, and Wadi Adai, along with several mountainous and coastal zones.

Field teams equipped with spraying and pest-control machinery have been deployed to eliminate breeding sites and reduce environmental risks linked to insect proliferation.

The municipality urged residents to cooperate with field teams, allow access where necessary, and maintain cleanliness around homes and public spaces. Officials stressed that community participation is key to the campaign’s success and to protecting public health, particularly during seasons when mosquito activity rises.
