Muscat participates in Earth Hour celebrations

On Saturday evening, 28 March, the Muscat Governorate and Muscat Municipality celebrated Earth Hour as part of Oman’s participation in this annual global environmental initiative, which aims to raise awareness of optimising energy efficiency and reducing environmental impact.

This event involved switching off the lights for one hour, from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm, at numerous buildings and locations, including the Muscat Governorate General Office and the Muscat Municipality Headquarters.

As well as, prominent landmarks such as the ‘Muscat Sign’ on Al Jabal Street, the Riyam, and the Ministries District Walkway, reflecting their commitment to reducing electricity consumption and boosting environmentally responsible behaviours.

The significance of Earth Hour is that it is a global initiative that reminds us of the effect of daily energy consumption and encourages effective practices that contribute to preserving natural resources. It raises community consciousness about environmental issues and strengthens ecological sustainability among individuals and institutions.

The contribution of the Muscat Governorate and Muscat Municipality to mark this event highlights their commitment to ecological initiatives and achieves environmental sustainability. This celebration coincides with Oman joining the world countries in ‘Earth Hour’. Thus, it reflects national efforts aligned with international initiatives and pursues a more sustainable future for successive generations.
