Omani surgical team removes cancerous tumour using advanced robotic system

Muscat: The Hospital of the Medical City for Military and Security Services in Muscat successfully performed a delicate surgical operation that led to the removal of a cancerous tumour from a patient’s kidney by using a surgical robot.

The operation was performed using an advanced robotic surgical system that provides high-resolution 3D vision, as well as precise control of surgical instruments. This helped remove the tumour while at the same time preserving the healthy part of the kidney.

The surgery was conducted by Maj. Dr. Mohammed Saleh Al Rashdi, Senior Specialist in Kidney and Urinary Tract Surgery, who applied robotic and endoscopic techniques, with full support from a medical team specialized in anaesthesia, nursing and related disciplines.

The use of surgical robots contributes to the accuracy of surgical procedures, enhanced by high-definition 3D vision and precise instruments that provide a wide scope of motion that mimics the movement of the human hand, besides furnishing a high level of stability that helps perform operations in narrow or complex spaces.

This accomplishment fits with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 in developing an advanced health system based on innovation and modern technologies. It also affirms the readiness of national cadres to keep pace with updates in the field of microsurgery.
