"InterContinental Muscat continues its Sustainable Luxury efforts for a Greener Future”

The Oman Food Bank (Daima) and the InterContinental Muscat Hotel have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at recycling used cooking oil and converting it into usable biofuel. The agreement was signed by Engineer Ibrahim bin Abdullah Al Hosani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Food Bank, and Yousef bin Mahmoud Al Rahbi, Hotel Manager of the InterContinental Muscat.

This agreement aims to achieve significant economic and environmental benefits by promoting the green economy and strengthening the local biofuel industry. This initiative will help reduce the country's dependence on fossil fuels and enhance environmental and economic sustainability. InterContinental Muscat is the first hotel in Oman to partner for this sustainable initiative..

Mr. Yousef Rahbi, Hotel Manager commented “At IHG, sustainability is at core in whatever we do.. We are proud to be the first hotel in Oman to partner with Oman Food Bank for this initiative. We use the IHG Green Engage system, an innovative online environmental sustainability system that gives our hotel the means to measure and manage their impact on the environment”

According to the agreement, the InterContinental Hotel will supply the food bank with used cooking oil, which the food bank will then recycle into biofuel.

Moreover, converting used cooking oil into biofuel will reduce carbon dioxide emissions, thereby mitigating the impacts of climate change. This measure will also promote the use of clean and sustainable fuels and contribute to improving air quality.
